Hi, I'm planning on self-studying AP CS A and I'll take the exam in May of next year. To prepare, I was wondering which textbook I should use(not AP prep book, a textbook) to learn the material. Any ideas from students who have taken this class? If you have any other tips about this class, please let me know.

I’m currently using “Java Concepts for AP Computer Science 5th Edition” by Cay Horstmann at my school, and I totally recommend it. It’s very clear and straightforward. I’m hoping that you have already done a prep book by now, because it’s hard to self study the material in less than a month with no prior programming experience. Also, be sure to look at the gridworld case study if you haven’t already. It’s on the collegeboard website. Good luck!

The Barron’s AP Comp Sci A book is also really good. I am self studying too!

I’m interested in computer science… Do you think I can self study AP Comp sci without having any prior knowledge other than a very basic java course?

@Sundlun As long as you get a good prep book and textbook, then you should be fine.
