AP Course(s) Suggestions

Over the summer, I plan to self -study, and take one or two AP courses online. The only ones that I am considering are AP Macroeconomics, AP Microeconomics, AP Statistics, and AP Biology. Which would be easiest to self study?

AP Statisitics is a really easy course. A lot of it is the same stuff, in my opinion that would be the easiest but it is really up to you!

I already have some information on AP Statistics from IB Math Studies, and it seemed fairly easy to me. I may consider it. What about AP Microeconomics and AP Macroeconomics I’ve been really wondering about those two.

I really don’t know anything about those two, I’m sorry! I go to a small school and we don’t offer either of those classes. This was the first year we were offered AP Statistics. I’m going into nursing so I haven’t looked at either of those because I really won’t need to take them. I’m sure there is some information on the internet about those classes.

AP Statistics is a fairly easy exam, so I imagine self-studying wouldn’t be too tough. Micro/macro economics are, in my opinion, the easiest 2 AP tests (at least from the ones I’ve done). There is a relatively small amount of content for the two tests (a prep-book for both tests is about half the size of the prep books for some subjects). Any of those 3 would be fine. AP Biology would not be as easy, I wouldn’t recommend it unless you already have a strong biology background.

All of those exams have both there upsides and downsides. With economics, you can learn it on your own, but it can also be confusing if you are not familiar with finance or business. Biology is intense, and really it should be that way. It has a great deal of memorization, but really your focus in a subject like this should be understanding the process and how everything fits together rather than just names and functions. This is best done in a class. Statistics is an interesting one. The test is relatively easy… if you know your material. I don’t really like the AP Statistics review books that are out there because they don’t really build the understanding of the subject. Rather it is just memorizing how to do the specific problem and then move on. I do think that you can self-study though if you expose yourself to enough material. Out of all of these, Statistics would probably be your best bet. The others tend to require that teacher’s touch that will tend to create those “Aha” moments.

Best of luck!
