Does it look bad to take an AP Course and turn in only the SAT Subject Test instead of the AP Exam? I failed the AP Bio Exam today, and with an extra month to study, I think I can get over a 700 on the subject test. I did independent study for the course, and I didn’t start until March
I want to cancel my AP Bio score before it is graded. I did horrible on it. I want to major in either Biology and Chemistry, so I really do not want colleges seeing my horrible score.
So, will taking the SAT Subject Test (and scoring high) in Biology look good to very selective colleges, even though I took and cancelled my AP Exam score?
AP scores rarely if ever affect college admissions decisions. What does matter, at least for selective colleges, is your bio course grade. Your proposed strategy of taking the SAT 2 Bio exam to somehow mitigate your score in the AP exam is without merit. Take the SAT 2 exam, if at all, because it’s the best choice for your college application and do so when you’re prepared. And if in fact your AP score is “embarrassing” don’t list it on your college app.
Thanks for the feedback. I decided I am going to take the subject test next month, and then I am going to retake the AP Bio Exam in 2016. I read on the college board website that only the highest score is recored if you retake an exam.
