<p>IF your school offers AP courses, they usually prefer to see more of those than outside courses, although an occasional class outside of that setting is O.K. if for good reason (not offered at the AP level at your school or not fitting into your schedule). If your school offers many AP courses and you are taking courses in the same subjects elsewhere, it can look like you are avoiding the rigor of the AP courses or otherwise getting around the system. (I speak as a Harvard alumna interviewer and recent high school teacher).</p>
