What is a decent amount of AP courses to take in high school? Like how many do people usually take? This is under the assumption that a school offers a fair amount of AP courses and not just 4.
It honestly depends on the school. At my school, all the upper-level courses are AP. There is no IB, barely any Dual Enrollment classes, and no classes that go past the AP level. Therefore, I took 11 AP classes.
I know other schools where it’s normal to take 6, or even 3, depending on the curriculum. Some high-level private schools don’t even offer AP. I’d focus on taking the most challenging courses that you can while still doing well.
You’re supposed to take 6-8 Total, including AP English language, an AP math, an AP history, then 3-5 choices coherent with your purported acadenic interests.
