ap courses.

So my dopey school doesn't offer ap courses, only dual
enrollment and honors. Are honors just as important as ap courses?
I plan to self study. Also is it possible to take ap exams in junior year, instead of senior, because i hear all these people saying they've sent their ap exam scores out with their
application, and how is that possible without taking the exam super early.
thanks for answers.

it depends on the HS - honors aren't as important as AP in a school that offers both, but in a school like yours, yes. they're weighted equally. and yeah, that's definitely possible... for instance, i took one freshman year and two sophomore year. they're not restricted to seniors.

good luck!

Definitely. It is also possible to take AP exams (based on self-study, or distance learning, or whatever) in sophomore year, in freshman year, and even before. (I know some local examples, although taking AP tests as a freshman or earlier is quite rare.)

The admission officers at Harvard take great care to understand your local context, and they will be aware of what your high school offers. How you challenge yourself in your local context will be one important element in building a strong application.

Good luck in your high school studies, and in your eventual college applications.

^ I don't know if I'm misunderstanding, but are you saying that the Harvard admissions officers actually understand my local high school? (as in, they know which clubs are pointless, which activities are easy to do, which are actually legit??) Thanks!

The Harvard admission officers make their best effort to understand the high schools of all the applicants. You, of course, can use some parts of your application to explain any truly unusual aspects of your high school education, and your high school counselor also has opportunity to do this in the materials that the counselor sends along with your application.

Your GC should be sending out a school profile that lists the courses offered, the number of graduates that matriculated to college, etc. They will use this to understand your HS.
