AP Credit for French

Hey,

I am a rising senior and UT has always been the school I've wanted to go to. I absolutely love everything about UT and Austin (born and raised there).

So with UT as my prospective school, I've been looking into the AP Credit I have and possibly could gain at the end of the school year. I'm in AP French and UT gives credit for scores as low as a 2. From the school's website I've found all the information, but it doesn't say how many hours each course is...

So... From my understanding a 5 on the AP French Language exam would gain me credit for the following courses:

FR 506, 507, 312K, 312L and FR 320E, 120M, FR 322E

And those would equal 24 hours of French credit?... Is that correct?...

Thank You!...

A 5 on the AP French Language exam only will give you credit for FR 320E, 120M, FR 322E, which is 7 hours of credit. For the French or Literature, it’s FR 506, 507, 312K, 312L (16 hours) or FR 604 and FR 612 (12 hours). I don’t see how you can get 24 hours of credit. The number of hours/credits are counted by added the first number of each course number (i.e. FR 506 = 5 hours).

A 5 on the Spanish Language test is clearly worth 21 UT credits.
SPN 601D, 610D, 611D, 318

A 5 on the French Language test appears to be worth 23 UT credits.
FR 506, 507, 312K, 312L
FR 320E, 120M, FR 322E
This makes sense but it is not listed very clearly. If you were an incoming freshman, you could look at your “Claim Credit” page and see. Since you are still in high school, I suggest you email the person who is listed as “undergraduate advisor” for the French Language department to confirm this. (I suggest you just sign your name to the email. You don’t need to mention that you are not yet a UT student.) Or call the tests for credit people and ask them: 512-232-2662

Just FYI, if you’re planning on using that credit to be a French minor, you still have to take classes in resident (at UT) to get the French minor. I believe that there is a 9-hour minimum.

Thanks for the help/information. The FR 102 class is stated as being 2 hours instead of 1.

Realistically, I doubt I’ll get 5, I’ll still try though…
For a French Minor, would that be about 20 hours total?..
