AP Credit

So I am taking a couple of AP classes at school and some that I’m taking (such as AP biology) Penn does not count that as credit. So should I bother taking the AP tests for those classes?

@BehindYou, even if Penn doesn’t count it as credit, it may allow you to use it as fulfilling a requirement. If it does, then I’d say it’s still worth it.

For instance, my older D got a 5 on her AP Calc test. In her college, this didn’t count for credit, but she was able to use this to fulfill her math requirement and so didn’t have to take that class, and in its place, could take a class she wanted more.

For, bio, it doesn’t. The bio department used to offer a challenge exam, but no more.

Depending on what the other exam is (e/g/ econ), I agree, if Penn waived the intro class, I’d take the AP test. Otherwise, I would not.

Don’t they only count the ones listed as credit? Such as Microeconomics I would have to get a 5 in order to get credit for Economics 001.
Also, I’m going to be attending Wharton so I’m pretty sure I won’t have to take biology classes?

Nope. Waiver means you do not have to take the class and can skip to a more advanced class, but you do not get credit for the AP score. So if you get a 5 in AP Micro, you can skip ahead to Econ 2, but you get no credit for Econ 1.
