I took the AP US History exam last year and got a 3 so I know I would test out of HIST 111 and I am also taking AP EURO this year and cant decide if I should take the exam or not. Would I even have to take HIST 112 because I plan on majoring in IB? I am also in honors college so i dont know if that changes anything… basically I am asking if it’s even worth it to take the Euro exam?
Have you looked at a four year curriculum for IB? If so, find out if you have to take any extra liberal arts electives. HIST 112 could count for one of those while HIST 111 could count for your history core course. My son will be a Computer Science major and I was surprised to see that he has to take three liberal arts classes in addition to meeting the Carolina Core requirements.
Students change their majors all the time. At orientation we were told that on average, students change their major 3-5 times before graduating. If you find yourself needing that HIST 112 credit when you’re a junior in a new major, you’re gonna wish you took that AP exam. A few extra credits aren’t going to hurt if you don’t. Think of it like insurance.
Honors college has its own core requirements that can’t be exempted through AP testing. However, there is the Carolina Core for all students where you CAN exempt some requirements based on AP testing. It’ll be worth not wasting 3 credit hours on a requirement you can skip. Take the exam.
