What APs can I get credit for at marshall? Which AP credits are recommended to be used?

From USC Marshall FAQ 2010:
Can I use my AP, IB, or A-level scores or college credit from another institution to fulfill the ECON 251x and ECON 252x requirements?
No. ECON 251x and ECON 252x must be taken at USC.

So my AP Econ grades will be useless at marshall…?

What about for other APs? I am looking to skip humanities GEs particularly.

Hi!
I’m a sophomore business major at usc and the marshall ap credit policy is the same as the university one. Core classes cannot be credited for but the math-118 pre-req can be waived with a 4/5 on ap calc ab.

For GE’s, you can get out of categories I and III, non-western culture and scientific inquiry, respectively.
For catergory I, I know you can waive it with a 4/5 on ap euro and ap art history
For category III, you can waive with a 4/5 on ap chem, bio, or any of the 3 physics exams.

Unfortunately, you cannot waive writing 140 except in extremely extremely rare circumstances (I personally think it’s a legend haha) or if you are a transfer student (and then still debatable)

So you will still have to take 4 GE’s but they’re not that bad (take Los Angeles Stories with Chris Free(d?)man for category IV :)

hope that helped!

Its really important for me to graduate in 4 years and I got in for Business Administration but I’m looking to switch to Finance. Do you know how hard that will be? Also, to community college quarter system courses transfer? Here are the things I’m looking to get credit for

AP CompSci A Test (4)
AP Calculus AB (5)
AP Chemistry (4)
AP Statistics (4)
Philosophy 2 (Taken at community college)

Will getting 4s or 5s on AP Environmental science and AP US History help me in any way?

Also, I am looking to have a good freshmen year grade. Would it be more advantageous to me if I just took the easiest math course instead of using my AP Calc AB score to go on to higher-level courses?

@JocularMango - There is no finance major. You major in Business and then concentrate do your senior concentration on finance courses.

Looks like you can get credit for calc AB but how about calc BC?

Scoring 4 or 5 on AP Calculus AB will give you credit for MATH 125 (substitutes for MATH 118 required for Marshall).

Scoring a 4 on Calculus BC will only give you credit for MATH 125. A score of 5 on the same exam will give you credit for MATH 125 and MATH 126.

Marshall only requires MATH 118. MATH 125 will replace that requirement if you pass either AP exam with at least a 4.

I got a 5 on AP Stat… does that do anything for me?

Not sure with the new curriculum if a 5 is going to get you out of anything. It use to be that if you had a 4/5 on an AP Calc exam and a 4/5 on AP Stat, you’d be waived out of Math 118 and Math 218. However, the new curriculum has gotten rid of Math 218, so most likely it won’t get you out of anything.

calc bc doesn’t waive any requirements since 2nd yr calc isn’t required for marshall.
while the computer science and us history etc tests don’t waive classes, the more credits you have, the sooner you can register/graduate etc (max number you can bring in in 32 though)

Can you graduate one semester early? If so, do you have your own graduation ceremony or do you still attend the same ceremony as the people in your class?

You said that us history ap does not waive classes… but it can give me more flexibility in the classes that i choose to take, right?

Lets say for CS 130 credits are reqd and son has 8AP courses, does that mean he can graduate early?

pixeljig, it all depends on which APs he has and how “straight” of a path he takes to his degree. We found half of our son’s 8 APs waived classes and the other half count as elective credit (Marshall old track). He’s planning on using the elbow room to double major or possibly get the accelerated Masters (accounting), but used freshman year to satisfy core & GE classes.

It’s definitely possible to graduate early, at least in Marshall. Not that familiar on the CS curriculum, so can’t really comment on that.

But I came in with 28 credits (7 APs), and was on track to graduate in 3 years with the old curriculum (which has more required classes) taking the average courseload (16 units a semester). So yes, it’s definitely possible if that’s what you want to do.

yes you can graduate a semester or even a year early if you have the credits to do so ( so should work for CS major)

if you graduate in december, you don’t have your own graduation ceremony but have the choice to attend the one either when you have a semester left or return for the one a semester after you technically graduate

you can choose to walk whenever you want, it’s your choice of which grad class you more identify with

correct that apush will give you flexibility because it can fulfill elective credits and count towards your overall graduation credit requirement

Thanks all ^^!

Son will do bachelors of CS, he has AP courses as follows -

English Lang, English Lit, Physics B, Physics C, Calc Ab, Calc Bc, Econ-Micro and Comp SC A.

Will this allow him to do Bachelors early or perhaps do BS/MS track in 4.5 years?

If I graduate a semester early, do I not have to pay tuition for the final semester?
