My school requires everyone to have a meeting with their counselor at the end of junior year to talk about college and today I had mine. My counselor said that it doesn’t look too good if I take a free period when applying to college. My definite classes for senior year are AP Physics C: Mech, AP Calc AB, AP Env Science, Honors English, Tech Intern. I want to major in mechanical or petroleum engineering. My counselor said that she thinks I should go down a level in econ and take ap chem instead of free period since I want to major engineering.
Should I listen to her and take AP Chem and standard econ or keep what I have with AP Econ and a free period. She wants me to let her know by the last day of school which is this Wednesday. Any input will help. Thanks
I’m not sure whether it’s wise to take three sciences in a year, but your counselor is right: you shouldn’t have a free period. Are there any other classes you could take? Could you take a community college class in lieu of that free period?
@topaz1116 We have a community college that is close to 30-45 minutes away. The only classes that we are allowed to take at it are intro to marketing and math studies which is the equivalent to precalc which i have already taken. I cant really think of any classes to take at my school that arent AP and i dont really wanna go above 4 APs
Screw your guidance counselor you choosing a free period will not have any effect; you’re schedule seems too much especially for your senior year. I would take AP Chem and free period and do not listen to your guidance I think you cannot handle it without a study hall period…colleges would rather see you suceed in your classes than to crash and burn…
