My son might be self studying to take the AP English and AP Computer Science tests next Spring. We could use some recommendations for good study guides. He's taken Basic and C++ programming classes and is now doing JAVA. Any suggestions on books or links?

The Barron's Comp Sci AP book is pretty good. However, it depends whether you're looking for a book thats more for review or learning the material itself. For learning the material, any decent text book on Java will probably do good. I cant remember the title of the book I used last year in my AP class, however I will find that out.

I used the Java Software Solutions book and it was pretty good.

He should be learning java pretty well, he takes it 5 days a week. We're looking for a review book to see what information they look for on the test. His teacher said at the open house that he does not teach with the intention of the kids taking the AP test.

I'll have son look at the two mentioned. Any more suggestions for English or comp sci?

Maria Litvin's "Be Prepared for the Computer Science AP Exam" is really good; it has good practice tests; the Barron's book is good as well. As for English, the only thing that can help him is practice, and CliffsAP has a good book at least for AP Language. I'm not sure of the quality for AP Literature.

Definitely Cliffs for AP English

i agree with alien
