I know this is a bad time to post this, but I'm a college student who is going to take an advanced programming class this coming semester (i heard the beginning stuff was super easy/boring) and the class requires a knowlege of AP-level comp sci, so what book would you recommend for independent study so I get a good knowledge going in? It can be an AP prep book or textbook, I just want cheap, concise, and clearly explained.

I used Barron's to review, and it seemed to go pretty in-depth (more so than necessary for just a review, so it might suit your purposes nicely). I don't remember the publisher of the textbook we used, sorry. :)

princeton review does a good job explainin the material, but the practice tests are rather bad.

we didn't have textbooks, read lessons off the website. : /

Barrons all the way. It is pretty cheap like less than 20 bucks for the book and is in-depth.
