AP English Composition

I've been accepted to Wash U early decision. In their catalogue it says that they give credit for a 5 on the "AP examination (Composition or Literature). Does this mean English Language or English Literature? I called them and didn't get a clear answer. Also, I'm not taking either course this year. I took AP Eng Language last year and got a 3. I'm really bad at the essays. I was thinking about taking both again, it seems like I wouldn't have to really study a lot for either. Do you think I could possibly get a 5 in one of them?

Yes, it means Lang or Lit. The lang test is called : AP English Language and Composition.

Im looking at Wash U's credit policy, and it says that if you get a 5, then 3 credits will be given for EACH 5 on BOTH tests. So, if you get a 5 on both, youll get 6 credits. Don't take my word though.

The multiple choice for both tests are set up similarly...Free Responses in Lit just involve a lot more integration/analysis between what is given and what you've read (known books/poems/essays/plays). You already know about Lang...

I would just try both. It really isn't going to harm anything. Just look at the threads about what everyone is reading in their Lit classes this year, read a few of the reoccurring ones, look at sparknotes, and practice your MC and writing and I think you'll be okay to at least try it.

Obviously I can't understand your whole ability, but at least trying will give you the chance of a 5. If money isnt an issue...do it. I got a 5 on the AP Lang. and it was a total fluke...I swear...I thought I did terribly. I think the multiple choice was my savior...because I went through the questions slowly and methodically. Also had a good teacher.

Good luck though!
