Okay, so basically my AP English Language teacher is decent, but I'm not getting a clear picture of how the overall test is structured and timed. I asked one of my senior friends who got a 5, and he said that the reading passages are almost like an easier version of the Critical Reading section of the SAT, but I still want more information please.

The AP language m/c is like the SAT CR on steroids. 45% of the whole test consists of m/c; the other is the essays portion.

Hi darthpwner, I got a 5 on the test last year. My teacher was superb so I can tell you what she did. I think she’s definitely the reason for my score. We read a lot of historical texts rather than narratives. They’re short, but complex. I’d suggest the following: as many religious texts that you can (not necessarily the entire text, but excerpts), the Communist Manifesto, Machiavelli’s The Prince, Rousseau, Thoreau (but don’t copy his writing style). If you want to read narratives, read Hemingway. We took about four practice tests throughout the year. Also, we read a lot of examples of perfect essays. I definitely suggest that (which I believe you can find on the collegeboard site). I think AP language is actually easier than the SAT CR… last year all the passages were extremely easy in my opinion, and for the most part, were very modern. Best of luck.

Thanks haaayanna. I appreciate the help!
