I'm taking both of these classes next year and they're both supposed to be fairly difficult at my school. Neither of them have any summer assignments but I want to be at least somewhat ahead of the game. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to prepare for both classes? For one thing, I would like to start off the year scoring highly on the writing scale for essays in both classes; does anyone know of any good books or sites to help for that?

Have you taken any AP Historys beforehand? I hear the APUSH Essays are structured way differently so if thats the case i’d look up the format and requirements for those.
If not you could just try to read up on the first chapter or so during the summer to get a “jump” ahead so its not as overwhelming

You’ll learn everything for the AP Lang exam in your AP Lang class. As far as APUSH is concerned, I’d start reading American history books. Possibly find a copy of the book your school uses at the local library and start going through it.

Would using an old textbook work out well? I bought an old textbook for a $1 with pretty good accurate information as far as I can tell. I was worried about it having a lot of biases but it actually has less than some current books I found.

The only issue is that it ends with the US in the middle of the Cold war but at the end of each chapter it has great key terms and critical questions to answer.

@Weeknd I have not taken any AP History classes before, or any APs for that matter, which is why I’m trying to prepare myself as much as possible so I don’t die junior year.

@swizzle13 Did your AP Lang teacher give you a lot of essay prep before she started grading them? I’m just worried because I’m not-so-great at writing naturally and the Honors English classes at my school don’t incorporate many essays into the classes. I have a feeling most kids will be in the same boat as myself considering we all had the same honors curriculum, but I would like to excel in this class. I’m also a little concerned about the time limit as I’m a fairy slow writer. Did your teacher ease you guys into the time limit?

Also, how far back does the APUSH curriculum go?
