AP English Literature (comments after test)

yeah, mc was good, but totally bombed the essays--didn't go over two pgs on any of the topics...oh well :(

MC: Easier than I thought it would be. I think I missed, at the most, 10.
FR1: I think I did pretty well on this one, 7 range I am hoping.
FR2: This was probably my best essay, hoping an 8.
FR3: Definitely threw me for a loop, I couldn't think of anyways to apply the books i had prepared on the spot, so I used a backup to my backups, Fahrenheit 451.

Did anyone use Ayn Rand literature?

I used the scarlet letter. basically copied my englihs essay for this year. English class is useful for something

it wasnt that bad...well maybe it was because i dont get credit and i was like.. what the heck... i'll do my own thing on the essays.

essay 1 -- not too bad.. did everything they asked enough to get a 6 at least

essay 2-- had lots of fun with this one and managed to give it some flavor... if they reward creativity, i'd get an 7-8, it not a 6.

essay 3 -- caught me a bit off guard since i only prepped two books. after careful thinking, i organized my thoughts and decided to go with "Things Fall Apart." it worked nicely the way i did it IMO so i think its a 6 at least.

MC was aite.. first passage wasnt so friendly but the rest was cake.

Agreed, first passage was madness. I started reading the it mindlessly, and only about half way through did I get the theme.

oh yea i write so messy, but i finished the test early and wrote a note to the AP reader commending him/her for getting through my essays.

Could I get a technically get a 5 with all 9s and 30 raw on the MC?

I thought it was the best writing I've ever done...and I've been getting nothing but 8s all year.

MC: i thought it was hard but then again i didnt do any reviewing or anything.

1st essay: not too bad
2nd essay: ***, birthday cake? there weren't too many lit devices to discuss.
3rd essay: fit exactly the books i prepared. i used a handmaid's tale but most of my friends use a doll's house by ibsen.

I think I did well on the MC
1st essay, took way too much time but it was really thorough and insightful
2nd a little rushed and only used two lit devices answered the prompt but was a little superficial
3rd maybe a bit too much plot summary, still I used the poisonwood bible and it fit perfectly

it seems like everyone in my class used either ethan frome or holden caufield

I totally bombed the MC...but theres no surprise there since I didn't have time to study. The only reason I took the test is that CollegeBoard doesn't give full refunds. On top of that, my English teacher is horrible and thinks that there is no way to study for this. At least my friends and I were able to tell her how bad the test was in front of her supervisor.

I thought I rocked the first essay until I realized at the end that I had the meaning of one of the poems wrong. Oh well

MC: a bit harder than expected.

FR1: Too easy.

FR2: Caught me off guard, but shouldn't be too bad.

FR3: Used Portrait of Artist by Joyce. Complete regurgitation of a previous english paper I had written, on almost an identical prompt. 8 or 9.

Yay! someone else used Ayn Rand! I wrote about We the Living, but i think i used too much summarization.

anyoen think nick from great gatsby could have worked b/c that's who i used..

did anyone use hamlet for the open-ended?

I used Nora from A Doll's House.

I did Anthem and I'm sort of worried about how it will be viewed since a lot of intellectuals (the AP readers) hate Ayn Rand....but it was just such a perfect fit!

Mc was decent.. the last poem confused me initially

FR1: awesome.. 3 pages.. intensely insightful

FR2: not bad, only used diction and syntax for literary devices

FR3: went well.. easily applied Invisible Man to the prompt

I am hoping for a 5.. we'll see.

Gatsby would definitely work, if I remembered any of it, for FR3.

I'm feeling better about my essays because I just ran through them all with my dad (an English PhD :D) and he said I nailed a lot of the concepts, especially by going into spirituality/religion on the Blake stuff.
