How in the world do you guys suggest studying for this test? I don't even know how to begin :(

I'm not entirely sure either. I'm going to go over some literary terms and maybe some poetry. I'm also going to look at SparkNotes for a couple of major pieces of lit that I've already read just to make sure I have enough to write about for the third essay question. I might even take some more of the practice exams in the AP Barron's and SparkNotes books I bought.

none....It all depends on how much you got from your AP course. And try to memorize at least three literary works thoroughly for you open-ended question!

Oh my gosh, I'm in the same boat. I have NO idea.... I'm not really going over literary terms, but I am looking at past free responses and trying to formulate a generic way of how to write an essay.... which is not going well....

What 3 genres for the literary works do you suggest?

I've got

The Great Gatsby
Their Eyes were Watching God
Pride and Prejudice

For me:

Jane Eyre
Crime and punishment
cold mountain

Jane Eyre is a brilliant choice-- I have never read it though....

How are you approaching the essays? Do you have a particular way of writing them?

Ugh im so screwed for the test

I'm bringing in

Death of a Salesman
As I lay Dying
Angels in America

I ended up with
The Great Gatsby
Daisy Miller
Hamlet
Heart of Darkness

I bet the question has nothing to do with any of these books.

Also I am screwed on the poetry essay since I hate analyzing poetry.

hmmmmm.. ive only read 3 books in my English class this year.. sparknoted the rest...
(A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man
Jane Eyre
Jude the Obscure)

question...what is the range on the lit. test for a 3, 4, 5? how is the score calculated?

I actually feel the most prepared for this exam! (Thank god calc bc is over....).
I'm gonna study my data sheets (6 page information summaries about all 14 works we've read this year in size 8 font) for-
Heart of Darkness
Wuthering Heights
All The King's Men
The Importance of Being Earnest
King Lear
Hamlet/Macbeth?

I also plan on going through this list of 150 or so lit terms we had to memorize first semester so I can sound smart in my essays...haha

I'm prepared with an array of literature that I've read.

Oedipus Rex

Macbeth

Wuthering Heights

A Doll's House

The Misanthrope

The Importance of Being Earnest

Ugh, some of you make me sick with your prepardness:)

Seriously though, does anyone have a technique of how to approach the essays?

does anyone know where we can get the answers to old ap english exams? 2005 and 2004 ?

my technique is watching american idol... i'll use that for my open essay.. the graders will eat it up.. i'm very confident of that

my advice on the essays would be to read through some of the 8 and 9 essays on AP central or in a prep book and then do the opposite. ok, maybe not....but still, those essays usually suck in my opinion.

of course-- and then, for a follow up, just use facts from Survivor, or better yet-- the new Smallville on tonight (does it even come on tonight?)

my teacher told me today that you can use hamlet to answer any question for the essay

Guess I'll just look over terms and 3 or 4 works.
