AP English Literature prep

So I want to be prepared for AP English Lit, and I am a slow reader, so I am gonna start reading books right now. What are some good suggestions? I have looked around but I want opinions from you guys. I know it doesn't matter in the long run, but is there anything that is kinda more modern and not ones that you will definitely get in honors eng and the actual class? Thanks!

Hey, I’m in AP Lit right now.

Here are some books I’ve read that are either from the course or that other courses may use :

Invisible Man
A Prayer for Owen Meany
Oedipus Rex
MiddleMarch
The Great Gatsby
To Kill a Mockingbird
Things Fall Apart

if you just go here : [AP Central - The AP English Literature and Composition Exam](<a href=“Supporting Students from Day One to Exam Day – AP Central | College Board”>AP English Literature and Composition Exam – AP Central | College Board)
to the AP lit section of the collegeboard APcentral page,

click “all questions”

and scroll all the way to the last page. There will be a list of books that the collegeboard has suggested to use for each prompt. It is OK to use books not on the list; however, the list will give you an idea on what level of book or what type of book you should be reading.

Hope this helps!

Sorry, didn’t see the “more modern” part.

The thing is, it’s BETTER if you use ones you will find in your english classes at school because you need the in-depth analysis that will be hard to get if you just read the book on your own. Also, if you study the book at school, the teacher should have a lot more information on those books.

Don’t look to impress the readers that you know some obscure new book. Look to impress them by showing that you can do a good analysis and show you understand how the themes work.

There are many more modern books you can read for [AP English Literature](AP English Literature and Composition Exam Prep & Review Guide). To really ace the exam though you will need some key tools under your belt, especially being able to analyze literature, write essays and choose the right answer. The poetry was always my downfall but I signed up for an really affordable program online that offered full-length practice exams that really helped me gain confidence. All the best on your reading ahead and remember to enjoy yourself!
