AP English Summer Assignment

for AP English language....8 books! Eight.
for AP English literature...6 books and a bunch of poetry AND an essay.

For AP Language and Composition:

Required:
Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller

Choose 2 out of 3:
The Awakening by Kate Chopin
Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
The Color Purple by Alice Walker

We have to read six books.

Twice.

Anthem by Ayn Rand and an outlinish thing to turn in

There's a long list of second-choice books, but I am reading The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis. We have to do questions for that.

This is for Senior AP English. It is also the smallest assignment we've ever had, and we've had the same teacher for 4 years.

For AP Lit, we're supposed to reread or read twice two of the following: Death of a Salesman, The Crucible, Invisible Man, The Great Gatsby, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, The Scarlet Letter, or One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. That's it.

I've read all of them this year except for The Crucible and Invisible Man.

At my school, they have to read Don Quixote.

@ LINKGCN4

You guys can read Ender's Game for AP English Language? Wow. That's an EXCELLENT book, but it's certainly not "literature" in the fashioned sense of the word.

omg I wish I had to read The Kite Runner for school. <3
For English Lit, we have to read:
Murder in the Cathedral (T.S. Elliot)
Antigone (Sophocles)
Profiles in Courage (JFK)
The Five People You Meet in Heaven (Mitch Albom) (<3!)
The Alchemist (Paul Coehlo)

We're "expected" to keep a journal, too. (Maybe I'll actually do that this year... hmm...)

we had to read Ender's Game for 9th grade pre-ib english, and i agree it was VERY good. anyways, since im dropping IB english, for AP English i have to read The Invisible Man.

Genesis, Exodus, Matthew, Luke, and some other passages from the King James Bible.
One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez (w/ detailed notes).

i have to read 3 books and do a whole bunch of crap with them...ugh!

My AP English Lit. teacher is so strict.

oh, we also have to do the AP exam questions from the AP Description packet. He wants to see what level we're on.

I have to read 2 and do a whole bunch of crap with them!

=[

LinkGCN4: Ender's Game

A favorite book! The rest of the series and the companion series are good too.

I don't know much about your other two choices, but you can't go wrong with Ender's Game. I don't know anyone who hasn't liked it.

NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! W00T!!!!!!!!!! i love tht i only hve a summer assignment for 1 class next year :).

Enders Game is amazing! And I loved Brave New World (we had to read that for honors last year)

We have to read:
Tess of the d'Ubervilles
Lord of the Flies
Crime and Punishment (and answer questions about this)

and test over all of them at the beginning of next school year. I've heard they're all decent books, though...

for AP LAnguage, we are required to read

Death of a Salesman
The Crucible
My Antonia
Les Miserables

plus writing essays comparing the themes of each one

Water for Elephants
The Poisonwood Bible
Reading in the Dark

^ poisonwood bible is crazy long, but beautiful. The plot is wonderful, the characters are memorable and each have their own voice (I like the "annoying" shallow one)...really funny too. I remember them stuffing like cake packets down their shirts hah.

Poisonwood Bible is really good! Kingsolver's other books aren't quite as excellent, though still decent
