Hi, I am going to be a Sophomore in high School, and am going to be taking AP Euro there. Anyway, I heard that you have to read 8 pages of tiny text, and take notes on this. Apparently this takes 2 hours average, and sucks a lot of time and effort. Since I was planning to play 2 sports in the fall, do you guys have any advice on how to take notes faster and still get and A? Any advice on AP Euro, whether it is easy or hard will be appreciated. Thanks.

P.S. - I am using the book A History of the Modern World By Palmer, 9th edition.

There are plenty of ppl in my school who play 2 sports whether in school or out of school that take AP classes just an intense as Euro. They work through it! If your dedicated to the sports (what are they btw lol sorry for being nosey ) and also to the class, you’ll be able to do both!

I can provide advice on AP Euro.

I took it sophomore year too. It was challenging because it was my first AP but I did very well in the class and excellent on the exam (5).

You will jump around from country to country but my recommendation is to follow your teacher’s lectures, read outside info as much as possible, pay attention to women’s issues and labor issues and the rise Islamic fundamentalism (breakup of colonial system really). Those are topics that have been thrown around as up and comers on the exam.

If you fail your first exam, that’s OK! You will have other opportunities to pass once you get into the grove of things. Read novels such as Utopia, Animal Farm, A Tale of Two Cities, Candide Frankenstein, All Quiet of the Western Front, Things Fall Apart, The Pillars of the Earth etc. Of course you don’t have to read each but each novel gives a little insight into the literary era of the novel (which is another major theme/topic) as well as the historical context of the novel(best of both worlds :D)

Relax! Of course strive for success and you should be able to do well

Some people on CC will say the class is easy, one of the easiest out there. I though my teacher made the class difficult. He graded way harsher than the college board does and requires us to do more than most other AP Euro classes from our area. Whether its easy or hard for you, just try your best!

Good Luck!!

Thanks for the quick reply. I will definitely follow your advice, and try to work through it. It is just that everyone says its the hardest class in HS, but I have really good reading skills so I should be okay. I think my AP Euro teacher is also a harsh grader, but I should be okay. Anyway, I have also started reading my textbook over the summer just to be sure. Thank You!

P.S. - I will try to read the Tale of Two Cities. It seems like an interesting story.
P.P.S- My fall sports are soccer and football.

Read the book! I swear most of the questions on the multiple choice tests, frq’s and dbq’s come from the book. It will pay off for sure.
