Hey guys: what should I do if I want to self-study for and take an AP exam that is not offered at my high school? Is there any way that I could go to another school to take the exam?

Also, how hard is it to self-study for and get a 5 on the AP Human Geography exam?

Human Geography is one of the easier AP tests to self-study for (along with Environmental Science and Psychology), so you shouldn’t have a problem.

APs help way more than people think and self-studying (even if its an easy AP) will definitely help your transcript. I self-studied AP comp gov which is a very easy semester AP and got a 5. Also, my college counselor who used to be a dean of admissions told me that APs are nearly equal to SAT IIs and that my strong AP scores junior year maybe made some schools more match than reach. HOWEVER, DO NOT SELF-STUDY IF ANOTHER SCORE IN AN AP CLASS IS AT RISK!! (sorry about the all caps but its very important). Good luck!

I’m studying for quite a few exams so I wrote to Collegeboard telling them that I want to take those exams. Write to them in January. They can’t give you an answer now.

If your school doesn’t offer it, you will have to go to another school. I think CB will ask you for your zip code so that they can find the nearest school to you that offers the exam.

I think it’s really doable. I haven’t started though. Apparently reading a prep book is enough.

Ok thanks for the reply. I guess I’ll try contacting CollegeBoard about it.

I’m trying to decide whether I should self-study for and take the AP Comparative Gov exam or the AP Human Geography exam. Which one do you guys think is easier to get a 5 on?

Yurtle, I took AP Environmental Science, didn’t read a single page of the textbook, didn’t answer half the FRQs, and still got a 4. I think the reality must be somewhere in the middle.

^ My friend skimmed a book on Environmental Science the night before the test and still got a 5. Incidentally, AP Comp Gov is one of the most difficult (all-senior) classes at my school.
