Hello! So, I got a 2 on AP Chem this year and a 5 in AP Lang. I want to do pre-med in college and am wondering how my 2 will affect my admissions. Idk how I feel about canceling the score either…? My AP English and history scores are far better than my science ones since English and history come easily to me. On the bright side, I can knock out English and history courses in college and focus more on science and math (which I enjoy far more since they’re more challenging).
I got a 3 on AP Bio last year and have 4s for both AP World History and APUSH. Will my 2 on AP Chem drastically affect my college admissions or should I not worry about it? I know AP scores are not the only thing colleges look at but I am worried since I want to study pre-med.
Schools I am/was thinking of applying to:
William and Mary
Baylor University
UVA
Wake Forest
Washington & Lee
UT Austin
Fret not…colleges are much more concerned about your grades in those classes as opposed to the AP tests.
Why is that?
Doing well in a class shows you can learn over the year and work hard over a period of time. That is what they want in college.
Not all HS have many APs.
Many people take AP tests senior year which is too late for admissions
For example, Stanford says:
Students currently enrolled in AP courses are not required to submit AP scores as part of our admission process. AP scores that are reported are acknowledged but rarely play a significant role in the evaluation of an application. Grades earned over the course of a term, or a year, and evaluations from instructors who can comment on classroom engagement provide us with the most detailed insight into a student’s readiness for the academic rigors of Stanford. http://admission.stanford.edu/basics/selection/prepare.html
Where does this leave you?
It tells you that you cannot place out of those classes in college…you will need to take them in college like many many other people do.
Thanks, @bopper!! When you say that I shouldn’t self-report my scores, should I report all but the chem one and then just send a score report from college board, or not self-report ANY of my scores and simply send a score report??
Most if not all colleges do not require you to send in official score reports until you matriculate, at which time it will be used for either or both placement and credit. The question is if you should just self report your higher scores in the Common App section asking for that info and leave out the Chem score, or report all scores. I’d leave it out, but others may disagree.
