AP exams:post-acceptance?

<p>hey,
I've been accepted to Georgia Tech-and will be most likely going there. I just wanted to know should I give a couple of AP exams this May? Will the extra credit be of any advantage-is it worth the $143 per exam?</p>

<p>Thanks in advance.</p>

<p>It will help you getting credits at the college.</p>

<p>Could you please elaborate-the entire US college education system-of choosing courses, credits et all-goes above my head .lol.</p>

<p>OP, I might be doing a similar thing (UChic here). Only problem is it is almost clashing/very close to my IBs. (For clirification: UChic has horrible IB exam credits)</p>

<p>oh,ok.
Which subjects do/did you plan to take ?</p>

<p>I might take Physics or Maths. I don’t know which ones though. The whole system is so confusing.</p>

<p>yeah it is :(</p>

<p><bump> anybody else?</bump></p>

<p>hey nikhil!
we’re very similar. im indian. ive been accepted to GT. nd i share my first name with u!
ok so about the ap exams…i took 4 ap tests the past summer. 1 in calc bc, 2 of physics c and ap chemistry. i took them in an international school here in bangalore although i dont study there. they are definitely very worth it. they can give u a feel of the american way of learning. they involve a lot of deep thinking and arent memory driven at all. they’re pretty easy to get a 5 on if one has been thinking well in his classes at school. u can also get a lot of useful credit whether at GT or anywhere that u choose to go. i say useful becuz ive spoken to some indians studying in the US and they say ap scores in intro physics and calc help u place out of those intro courses and they really save time. so it is a great idea to take 3-4 tests depending on how comfortable u r. 4 ap credits in wisely chosen subjects can save u a whole semester! sample papers are available on the collegeboard website. u can check them out. schools here in india who administer these exams may charge u an additional fee apart from the collegeboard fee. but i think i wont be accepting those credits cuz i really wanna go thru those courses to get a feel of the system there. and the courses will be very different from the isc and cbse physics we have here although the content will be the same. the way of teaching and learning is more feel based and education there is for the heart and mind rather than only for the mind. so i want to experience those courses. but again, if u feel like u have a good grasp of the subject and u want to accept those credits and move onto harder courses, the ap exams are a great way to get ahead and save time!
hope that helps.
what do u plan to major in at Tech?</p>
