I'm considering taking an AP exam without the course because my school offers very few APs. I'm considering biology, stats and the two economics. Does anyone know of good textbooks/resources for these courses that I can get a hold of easily? Thanks.

yeah. im independent studying for both econs as well. i really like the barrons AP economics book, which goes into good detail (covers both micro and macro). I also bought Gregory Mankiw's textbooks for both subjects.those books go into great detail, i don't think it will all be tested. Only if you want an deep understanding of the subjects should you get Mankiw's books (which are moderately expensive- $60 each)- for the AP exam I'm sure the Barrons will be more than enough. And although Im not doing stat yet, everybody seems to say that Barron's AP STAT book is the best. And no I don't work for Barrons. :)

is it possible to get a good score on stat ap without taking the class?

Search past posts because many people say that it's one of the easier AP's to study for. That said, ALL of them take work.

computer science also takes work?
i think i know java really well... do i still need to study for the exam?

No idea. But im sure the college board will come up with some way to trick you- regardless of how well you know the subject.

Thanks for the help, I'm particularly interested in Stats but I think Economics will be more useful in the long run since that's what I'm interested in majoring in. Maybe I'll take a free block to study for one or both.

twistedlogic: Mankiw's textbook is available on thriftbooks.com for $4 + shipping. (The shipping costs more than the book.)
