AP exams

During my junior year I had four AP classes. I had a tough time due to illness but I worked to keep all my grades up, mostly As (still don't know how I got that B for one quarter of art! :O). I was able to take 2 AP exams but I was supposed to take four. The two I missed were stats and physics. I was just wondering if this will affect me negatively...

I'm planning to take those two exams (and all of the exams for the AP classes I will be taking next year) when May comes around again. However I know that colleges won't be able to see my scores until after they're graded and by then I should already know what college I'm going to!

*I'll be taking SAT II subject tests in physics, math level2, and either French or chemistry.

I think it would be a lovely idea to say what you just said in the application -- there's a question each year on the MIT app that says something along the lines of "Use this space to tell us anything you feel we need to know in order to evaluate your application."

What Mollie said. Besides, even if they cna't see your scores, they'll see that you're signed up to the take the test (the tests section specifically asks you to list tests you have taken or will take). If you're grades are good, I'm positive they won't hold it against you. It's not like you opted out of the AP test because you were failing the class. ;).

do we have to report all scores (ex: if someone got a 5 on calc but a 3 english...do they have to report the 3 b/c isn't that equivalent to an "F" MIT standards ("C" everywhere else))

Tart, don't worry at all about how it translates into a letter grade. That's not the point. So colleges look at both your grade in the class and your score on the test. If you got a C in the class, a 5 can show that the class was graded extremely harshly and redeem you. On the other hand, a high grade and low score show the class was weak or didn't adhere well to the AP curriculum (I broke every curve in the class I had a low AP score in).

Ginkgo, you'll be fine. Just include a quick note. AP grades are really not the preferred way to judge how well you did in a class anyway. They're only really useful if you're trying to make up for a low grade, as I mentioned before. Not taking an AP test is different from not taking an SAT 2 or something! Don't worry about it. :)

Which is a better choice of exam to take AICE diploma or A-level or AP?

Tart: Unless you're consistently doing badly on AP tests, I doubt the scores will cause MIT to look askance at you.

For example, I got a 2 in Calc BC and a 3 in Physics B. I got in (and yes, I reported all my scores). I also had a bunch of other scores, including Comp Sci AB and Statistics, that were 4s and 5s.
