AP French Language.. HELP

Ok so the AP French Language test is tomorrow. I've been studying FOREVER, but I do need some helpful tips... I've been taking practice tests, etc. and I'm averaging about a 4 right now. Any last minute suggestions to help me bump that to a 5? Thank you!

lol… how did u do in the speaking part? i’m nervous about THAT. i hesitate a lot!
good luck!

what are you studying?

I think the best way to jump from a 4 to a 5 (I averaged a 4 on practice tests first semester and 5s on practice tests 2nd semester) is to use advanced structure sentences. By integrating si sentences, “apres avoir…”, conditional, “en parlant”, and just generally varying sentence structure, you get major props from the AP graders even if your vocab is less stellar like mine. Put the most energy into your composition because it’s worth the most (and try to leave time to proofread it!).

On the speaking portion, try to quickly outline an advanced structure sentence for each of the usually 3 questions (the first question is “describe what happens in the cartoon/drawing,” the second is usually a personal experience related to what happened in the drawing, and the third is usually a much broader theme related to the world or society). Then, fill in the gaps as much as you can. If you’re at a loss for words, then say “This reminds me of…” and just try to improvise with something related to the topic at hand. I’ve noticed that it doesn’t matter if you don’t have super-intense/varied vocab as long as you speak clearly, make sense, and have varied sentence structures and verb usage.

In the filling in verbs & grammar sections, there are certain phrases that should alert you to a probable answer. For example, if it’s the fill in any word (en, dont, le, les, que, qui) section and you see: Les choses _____ j’ai exprim

Oh yeah and today I’m just cramming as much vocab as I can and reviewing verb tenses. Here are some helpful activities for fill-in grammar & verb exercises: [AP PRACTICE ACTIVITIES](http://www.msdsteuben.k12.in.us/dblaz/miscellaneous/ap_practice_activities.htm). I’ll probably do another practice AP this afternoon and then relax tomorrow morning.

Jamiroquai, you’re a life saver! Thank you so much!
Good luck! Hopefully it won’t be extremely difficult…

Jamiroquai, where can you find practice AP tests?

Mushmouse: my teacher passed out the 1998 and I think 2003 or 2004 AP exams which Collegeboard released… they’re available, but I’m pretty sure you have to pay for them online/order them in advanced or something. also most bookstores have practice workbooks from Princeton Review, 5 steps to a 5, a lot of which have practice APs, but again they usually range upwards of $15 (usually $20-25).

No problem shayz! Yeah I hope it isn’t too bad :-\ Good luck to you too!

Je m’en fous du francais! I can’t take it anymore these AP’s are driving me crazy. I’m totally going to get a 1. uuuggggghh

Does anyone know whether we’re supposed to use pen or pencil on the free response? My paper would look much better if I could write in pencil…

@ nastynate- I completely sympathize. The only thing keeping me studying at this point is the fact that I spent a good 300 bucks on the tests so I might as well pass.

omg that’s insane 300 bucks? how many tests are you taking? My school only offers 4 AP’s and I’m taking three of them but my school pays for half the exam fee.

Still French is going to be a mess. I have an english final for my dual enrollment college class in tommorow morning so I’ll have to rush to school just to make it on time!!!

Okay I was totally wrong when I said collegeboard only released previous exams for $$$… here are 4 practice tests for free:

@ nastynate- yeah I’m taking 4 exams with no rebates of any kind :frowning: but it’s a heckuva lot cheaper than the equivalent credit in college! :D

jamiroquai you’re just about awesomeness incarnate!!
