Grade Cancellation
Grade cancellation deletes an AP Exam grade permanently from your records. Grades may be canceled at any time. However, for grades not to appear on the current year's grade report, AP services must receive a signed letter requesting cancellation by June 15. While there is no fee for this service, your exam fee is not refunded. The grade report that you and your school receive will indicate that the grade has been canceled.

Does this mean that there is no need for sophomores to cancel ap grades before seeing them because grades can be cancelled anytime before they apply for college?
Im confused.

i'm pretty sure it means that you have to cancel a score for a test taken this year before june 15th, but after that it cannot be cancelled and will be on your report. i'd call your guidance counselor or college board to make sure.

I was just looking at the college board site, and I think your best option if you want to keep colleges from seeing a particular score is to withhold that score. If you cancel it, you'll never find out what you got (perhaps you just think you didn't do well and you really got a 5...?). By using the withholding method, if you're a sophomore you can wait to see how you scored before you send AP scores to your colleges (but if you put a college code down on your answer sheet for the scores to be sent, you'll need to let them know before June 15th to withhold the score to that college...then you can see what it is and if it's good, you can cancel the withholding so that it'll show up on future grade reports to that school.
