AP Grade is an 89. Should I beg the teacher for a 90?

“I feel like they should help you bring up your grade because you’re sooo close. A friend of mine had trouble with a teacher who offered no extra credit (she was in a similar situation as yours). She eventually talked with the guidance counselor/school dean.”

Actually, in a quarter grade an 89 is not so close to a 90 - in one of my classes it could be 10-20 points. Also, what do you mean “trouble” because there wasn’t extra credit, and why would the GC or dean do anything except explain to the student that she should have done the work that was actually graded for regular credit?

“Just ask! The worse she can say is “No”.”

Again, this is not the case, OP’s reputation will suffer for being the kind of kid who would do this.

Um…no, you should have been trying to earn an A- or A from the get go. It’s not like you just randomly found out your grade in the class at the last minute. @hwhat318 that’s a tenth of a percentage rather than a whole percentage. IMO, you shouldn’t ask your teacher to bump up your grade. If a teacher decides to bump up your grade without you asking, then that’s their choice.

For example, during freshman year, my gym grade dropped to a 92.5 (an A is a 93) because of swimming skills testing (I learned how to swim in gym class). My gym teacher came up to me and told me she was going to bump it up because she saw that the rest of my grades were A’s (I didn’t even know teachers had access to all your other grades).
