AP Human Geography and AP World History

Hi parents! I'm a student wondering about online FLVS AP Human Geography and AP World History. Have your children taken this class? If so, what was the difficulty level? How much time did they have to spend on the class? Thanks!

Human Geography has the reputation for being easy. I didn’t go to a college that offered such a course so I’m not sure I’d have gotten credit for it. Our school does AP World as a two year course that is a modification of NYS’s two year Global History requirement which you take freshman and sophomore years. A select group (my younger son’s class was the first to try it out) was picked to do the AP for sophomore year. It meant that they had to do the second half of the course at AP level and then review the first half of the course at AP level too. My son was one of the few who got a 5 on the exam. (Amusingly his teacher didn’t care for him, gave him a B+ and had predicted he’d get a 2 on the exam. Ha!) He didn’t know about kiddo’s ability to write about anything and not get panicked by questions out of left field. (DBQ was about the Olympics.)

S1 challenged AP Human Geography and passed with a 5. He took the actual class for AP World (his first AP) and got a 5 on that, too. Both of them were accepted by his college and enabled him to graduate on time with a double major. It wouldn’t hurt to look into it.

One of my kids took AP World, but not online. The curriculum was quite rigorous as a result of the breadth of the content.
