AP Lang 2012

I thought there were 7 passages when I first flipped through it. Lol, then I realized they just reprinted it. (My PR practice had 7 passages on it though)

Glad thats over…probably got a 2 or 3

The first two passages were pretty good. The third MC passage was WHAT THE?! I had to read it over like 50 times. I could barely keep my eyes open for the fourth but that one was kind of weird too. The DBQ was really easy for me. The passage one was meh, and the last one was also meh. I did the last one before the passage one though. I answered the question, but I don’t think they were amazing I guess lol. I don’t think I got a 5 but I think it’s possible I got a 4!

@arghwhy
hahah I thought the same thing too, and then I realized that they’d reprinted it.

the last passage in the mc was really annoying and I didn’t have much time left to decipher that nonsense so I had to make a few educated guesses. The DBQ was alright, I think I did relatively well. The second passage was okay, a little too hostile for my taste, but interesting to write about. The argumentative one was really open-ended and my essay sort of turned into a really philosophical argument, and I don’t think I was very clear… Really hoping for a 4! The most annoying part of this whole test was not being able to eat for 135 minutes while writing the essays.

The only MC I thought was hard was the last section but I had extra time left and understood it after the second or third read through. The second to last wasn’t hard if you’d taken history and govt.

@kitkatxoo me too!! on the third or the fourth mc passage, my brain started to burn out… -___-
i can never know how my essays are gonna be graded, so i can’t really say my essays were this or that. BUT, i think i outlined my points well before i wrote them. but my essays were probably suuuuper messay :l ahhhh only if i can get graded on my essay outlines.
finally relieved that i’m done with all my AP’s this year  now crossing my fingers for a 4 on this exam.

I guesses on the last 8 or so since I ran out of time. I put c for all of them. Hopefully at least 2-3 are right. Rest of the MC was pretty easy.

I thought all the MC was pretty easy. The second to last one was moderate-hard, last was about the same. I was sitting behind the only clock in the room and I didn’t have a watch though, so my timing was poor and I had to rush and guess on the last few problems. Thankfully I borrowed a watch for the essay portion.

I thought the MC was really easy. The last passage was fun to figure out; it was actually really easy.

I am confident that I did well on the essays but I’ve never done a practice essay so I’m not sure.

The first two multiple-choice were kick-butt easy, I thought. The third was also pretty simple, but I studied a TON for APUSH which made that passage significantly easier. The last passage was definitely tricky. I finished in time with about 30 seconds to spare, but that is definitely the one I feel the least confident on.

I LOVED the synthesis essay, since that was one that I had to write an essay about a few months ago! The analytical was a little tricky. It felt really beginning-heavy in terms of rhetoric.

The argument was good, I thought. Was it as simple as just pick one and argue for it over the other?

I just picked one and argued why it was better than the other. I wrote it at the end though with 25 minutes left so I didnt have time to acknowledge the other side or anything which is what you need for a 7 or above I think…i didnt have a conclusion haha. Do you automatically get a passing score (6) if you answer the prompt though?

anyone want to make a chat to talk about mc

Someone told me that you had to argue one AND talk about their combined relationship… I had a feeling they were mistaken. I think that without a conclusion, you would be in the 5-6 range, without acknowledging the other side. But who knows, you could be one of those cool kids who can pull something fantastic off under pressure in your body paragraphs and still score a solid 7.

so a 5 or 6 wouldn’t be out of the question? I’d be surprised to have gotten a 7. Im hoping for a 5 or 6 to make sure I get a 5

@Oscarlany - you should get a 5 or a 6 imo. 6 is usually “adequately addresses the prompt with some insight” so as long as you did that you should be good. Though, to get a 7 or above you need to show some exceptional insight.

Did anyone else really struggle with this years’ FRQs? We did at least two of each type in class (former FRQs) and I had a MUCH easier time with those (especially the Locavores from the 2011 test.) The argumentation, especially, was a killer for me.

The argumentation essay asked yout to argue the RELATIONSHIP between certainty and doubt, not assess whether one or the other is good or not… I pretty much said that there is no such thing as pure certainty or doubt, as they sort of counterbalance eachother, no matter how lightly.

The question was broad, so you could argue for either if you somehow connected it to the relationship of the two (e.g optimism is better than pessimism).

the last MC passage was kind of a joke. I think you really have to be in practice to be able to read and understand stuff like that in a short period of time, and I haven’t read anything so wordy since Shakespeare in 9th grade. the funny thing is, I had sped through the others and actually had 20+ minutes to spend on the last one, yet I STILL was barely able to finish it. oh, and I agree that APUSH made the third MC a lot easier to analyze.

the rhetorical analysis and free-response were pretty easy, but um, the synthesis? really, CB? it was almost as bad as the penny one from 2008. my class actually did all of the 2011 essays for our final a few weeks ago, and I would have LOVED a synthesis like the locavore one from last year. I mean, this year’s wasn’t at all difficult, and I don’t think my essay was bad… I just don’t think my heart was in it, haha.

Did we have to have conclusions? I left them out for all of them because I didn’t think they’d be needed…

Does this automatically fail me? (below 6)

Hey! Sooo

Mc: horrible, I expected that, I liked the first passage though haha, the last one oh well … Seriously why would someone write about that? I finished with 6 seconds to spare! It was horrible

Synthesis: loved loved loved it! I was very sarcastic and began my Essay with an anecdote to convey my meaning and tone

Rhetorical analysis: understood it perfectly, focused in tone and use of technical language, appeal to pathos and logos, and use of examples… I began this essays with Kennedy,s chiasmus of ask not what your country …

Argumentative: I saw it and said … Crap. Haha but then I came up wit the idea that doubt always casts a shadow over certainty and thought about the whole area 51 thing, JFKs questionable death, and the plot of 1984 … I also opened the essay up with am anecdote
