<p>How did you do? Did you consistently score in the 10-12 range?</p>
<p>I just took the March SAT, and I didn't really bother practicing the essay because it's so similar to AP Lang (which I've got an A- average in) minus the rhetoric questions. Now I'm having second thoughts. I thought it was a decent essay, but I'm a little fuzzy on how good a writer you have to be to get a high score.</p>
<p>the answer is, you don't have to be a great writer to get a perfect score. it helps, but the main thing is organization and being concise. Anyone can do that imo</p>
<p>Last year I took the June SAT I a few weeks after the AP English Language and Composition exam.</p>
<p>I got a 5 on the exam but a 7 on the SAT essay- There's a difference between the types of writing the two tests expect. The AP expects a bit of creativity and super-high quality writing while the SAT expects formulaic (and sometimes verbose) writing. In June, I only filled one page. I retook in October, though, and got a 12.</p>

<p>I heard that the SAT graders are really stingy about structure and that if you don't have the typical 5 paragraph structure you get dinged for it.
I have a friend who has practically 100% in AP Lang and he only got a 7 on his SAT essay even though he consistently gets his AP essays scored as 8s and sometimes 9s!</p>
<p>I've gotten 100's in my AP Lang class, and got an 8 on the SAT essay. I'm very non-formulaic and I work a lot better when I have time to really think.</p>
