so i have a dilemma.

I have AP Latin V at the end of my schedule. before that, I have lunch and 2 free periods. If i were to drop latin, I would get out at 12:25 and would be able to start work at 1. With latin, I would have to stay until 3:15. I want to keep the class because the teacher is awesome and it is fun but I feel that getting out and being able to work would provide me with both enough time to do homework and work a decent amount of hours.

please help! any suggestions?

If you have two free periods, you probably don’t care much about getting into a prestigious college, so I’d say to go for it.

How badly do you and your parents need the money that you would be able to earn in an extra two hours each day?

If you have lunch and two free periods before Latin V, you should be able to finish just about all of your homework before you leave the school building after Latin class. Think about doing that.

I would never advise a student to drop a class they enjoy. It’s hard enough finding subjects you like, it’s a gift to find a good teacher (or one that gets you) in the subject. How badly do you need the money? Unless it’s a high paying job, I would stick with the Latin class.

You should be able to do a lot of homework during the two free periods, right? Aim to complete the day’s homework during the free periods.

And if you’re going to take Latin then, I’d advise against having free periods, at least having two.

why do you say that you advise against having free periods if i am taking latin?

Nothing at all wrong with free periods if that is normal in senior year at your high school. Happykid had three.

Class rigorous does count for top school admission. It is not a problem if you are not aiming as high as many students here at cc. If you really need that money, then your job may have a higher priority. However, if you get a good score in the AP of a World Language, it may mean a lot of credits in college. The saving may be more than the extra 2 hours job everyday that you mean earn this year.

Most selective colleges want to see 5 classes Honors/AP per year, including senior year, and no free period/study hall (outside of lunch, of course).
If you’re not aiming for a selective college, use your two free periods to do homework.
If you aim for a selective college, try to find at least one more class to take during one of these two free periods (possibly both).
Do take the AP class, it could save you 3 Foreign Language classes in college which adds up to very nice savings.
