AP Latin as Junior -- language needed as Senior?

I understand that the most highly selective colleges generally want four years of foreign language. My son will take AP Latin as a Junior since he started Latin in middle school as the school typically does. There is some Honors Latin class he can take as a Senior (cannot recall what it is), but I am not sure if he should take it.

He is a math-science kid (though Latin is his next best subject) and may want two AP sciences Senior year or he may also want to take AP computer science or some other AP. Do you think that would be okay, or do you think he needs to take a foreign language Senior year? Wondering since it could impact other course selection Junior year.

Completion of level 4 of a foreign language, even if with less than 4 years in HS, “counts” as 4 years. There is a whole thread on the topic.

Having said that:

What would he want to do? If he wants to take another year of Latin, he should. If he’d rather take AP CS or 2 AP sciences (as long as it’s not bio and Chem concurrently), he should,

Neither of my kids took four years of a foreign language in high school (and didn’t reach level 4), and both were admitted to top schools, so it wasn’t necessary a few years ago. But maybe things have changed.

He’s reached level 4/AP which is what top schools want. So, he’s free to choose whatever he prefers.

Actually AP is usually considered level 5. He really doesn’t need to take more Latin. My younger son stopped at the level before AP (called Latin 4 in our school system) and did not take a language as a senior. Even with less than perfect grades and scores he got into U of Chicago, Tufts and Vassar. As a senior he took AP Calc, AP Euro, and AP Physics C, regular English, regular and honors orchestra. I think he also took health that year.

Thanks for the feedback.
