4 Years of Foreign Language?

Have a question of how important for top colleges to see the applicants with 4 years of foreign language. My kid is junior, has 3 years of Spanish and 1 year of Latin, he also speaks fluent Russian (no official record). I want him to take an additional AP class for his senior year instead of Spanish IV (cp). His counselor does not suggest to do it, as colleges may look unfavorably on this. I am thinking, however, that having another AP class would look better on his application rather than a cp class. I checked some of the colleges (Fordham...Columbia), they all seem to require only 3 years. Please advise.
