AP Music Theory + AP English Lang

Hey,

Sorry for these annoying preparation threads, but I have a serious concern. I've heard from a lot of upperclassmen (I'm a rising sophomore) that AP Music Theory and AP English Lang were some of the hardest APs out there (AP Exam and class).

Since I'm really not that occupied after 5 PM (just sitting around), I was thinking that I should self-study some of the material before I actually take it in class next year. That way, I can get all the hard stuff out of the way while I'm under as little stress (i.e the burdens of ECAs) as possible .

Can you guys give me some advice on how to prepare (and self-study the hard parts) for AP Music Theory and AP English Lang? I don't want these classes to be a big slap in the face.

Thanks!

Btw, I hate singing but I love music so you can see some of the challenge here. hehe

music theory was hard for me, but it was fun, still waiting on my AP grade, prolly be in within 2 weeks, but basically, study the material inside out, especially learn to recognize pitch intervals.

I took AP Theory this year, and I agree with JJ09. Learn your intervals (esp. melodically) as best as you can. A drill we were told to use was to sit at a piano, not looking at the keys, play an unknown white key, and name the note. If you have a good teacher, the nonaural material should come next year--focus on your ear training.

I took AP music Theory as a sophomore. The test was hard. The theory wasn't too hard.

Practice hearing intervals. Do you have any prior experience with music(such as playing in band)? Experience usually helps.
