AP Music Theory

Arg, sorry, Anamai. I got involved in a family thing for Mother’s Day. I would have been a horrible study partner, anyway, though. The test was an epic fail for me…bleh.

The dictations and sight singing went horribly for me. =(

Multiple choice was INSANELY difficult today, although some of the examples were interesting to listen to…

^ I agree, I loved listening to some of the excepts, but the multiple choice seemed REALLY hard. I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought so. :)

And yeah, I bombed the dictations, and possibly the rest of the free response, plus the second sight-singing.

Weird…I thought multiple choice was extremely easy. Of course, this is in comparison to the insanely hard practice tests given by my teacher. Melodic dictation was tough. I got the first three, and the final two measures of each. Harmonic dictation went a lot better. Part writing was easy. Composition was fair. Sight-singing was really easy. It was all scales.

I’m one of the top students in AP Music, thanks to my pitch…but that’s the only class I actually study and ace lol.

The listening portion of the exam was easy, which boosted my confidence. And wow. You’ve got to be joking me on the melodic dictation portion…the first question, I bombed (despite my near-perfect pitch), only dictating the top line of the staff and completely leaving blank on the bottom line. Voice part writing was easy as usual as well as sight singing… unfortunately our teacher played very easy melodies for us to dictate…

So it seems like the CB completely pwned most of us with dictation.

yeah…i thought the dictation was hard…but the sight-singing was nice…the non-listening portion was hard…
the excerpts (i think you probably know which one i’m talking about) made me laugh so hard…it was just my sister and me in the room…and we looked at each other and giggled…
siemprecursia…it’s alright…i totally had a mother’s day thing too…:)…

and just to add…LONG LIVE THE WORM!!! (i laughed…and made a ode to it at the end of my frqs…:))

ahhhh music theory… i took it last year, self-studied with help of music theory from piano. XD

highlight of last year’s listening had to be this random selection of like a mariachi band or something. it was… surprising, and hard to pick out intervals and blah. hahahaha

The Good: Both Melodic Dictations. Non-aural Multiple choice. Part Writing. Harmonic Dictation the first one

The Bad: Composition. Harmonic Dictations the second one.

The Worst: Aural Multiple Choice. Too distracting to listen to stupid theory!

I feel okay about the test in general, the melodic dictations were actually easier than I had expected them to be. The harmonic were harder though

I started cracking up when they said the first Melodic Dictation would be played on a euphonium :P

I took music theory last year, didn’t study, didn’t take the class, but have had 10 years of piano so it was pretty easy. The only thing I was absolutely clueless on was the textures on the multiple choice. got a 5, and 5 on the subsection
