***AP Physics 1: Algebra Based (2016-2017)***

Self- study? well that’s cool! better if you are a slow self learner!

@NASA2014 My school makes it a double class, takes up the slot of two classes. Same thing with AP BIO, AP chem, and idk what else.

@ScN2018 My school also does that with Chem, Bio, and Calculus

Man, I’m absolutely stumped on how to study for this exam. Princeton Review is really math-heavy instead of conceptual stuff, and I’ve heard that the exam is almost 100% conceptual. To the people that got a 4 or a 5 last year: how did you do it? This is likely going to be the hardest AP class for me this year. Worrisome.

@QuestionerZ 5 steps to a 5 is pretty good.

I got a 4 last year and my friend got a 5. We both used 5 Steps to a 5, and we agree that no other book comes close to it.

I read through the whole 5 steps book, took notes on the stuff I didn’t know, and did both practice tests from the book. I also scavenged online for all the legit test prep material you can find, completed them, and reviewed my mistakes. Last time I checked, there were 3 sources of real AP Physics 1 material:

  1. The 1 released CB FRQ
  2. Sample Questions from the CB website
  3. The shortened MC and FRQ practice at the end of the Course Description

Also, ask your teacher if they signed up for CB practice. Last year, my teacher got 40 sample questions from CB and let her students practice them. I think they do this each year, but your teacher has to sign up for it or something.

Legit test prep material for this exam is very hard to come by, since it only came out 3 years ago. Don’t trust any of the Physics B and C stuff; they’re not the same conceptual level as Physics 1.

I just got the Princeton Review for AP Physics 1. Have you guys ever read through it? Was it helpful?

@ivyleaguer0716 I finished reading this book, 2017 edition. I found it very helpful and easy to read and follow explanations.

Oh nice. I’m reading it right now. Do you know what else you’re doing to prepare? I mean, I’m just answering a bunch of questions and stuff but I don’t know what else I can do to prepare.

@ivyleaguer0716 5 steps to a 5 is another book I am reading before the test. It has a bit different approach, so I think it might help to look into concepts from different perspectives. The exam is extremely conceptual, not a lot of math…

Quick question guys. Are there 40 MC questions or 50? Because many review books say 50 but we did an official practice exam in class and there were only 40.

@Batmoose
The official “secure” exams have less questions.

50 based on the following
http://apcentral.collegeboard.com/apc/members/exam/exam_information/225288.html

The released exams on the course audit only have 40 MC (4 of which are multi-select). However, the actual exam has 50 MC (5 of which are multi-select). If your teachers can give you access to it on Monday, there is a full length practice test from 2014 (with 50 MC) on the course audit which is a very good resource.

So then the secure exams are easier than the regular one? Darn, I got 33/40 on the practice exam and I kinda stopped studying after that lol :((

I guess I should find a real practice exam then, I hope the actual exam isn’t much harder than the practice.

A 33/40 is very good and on track for a 5! There are MC questions in the course description and in the released practice exams from each year which supposed to only be available through a registered teacher on the course audit but they always manage to be leaked (you should no attempt to search for these leaked practice exams however because that would be unethical).

Hey Guys,

I’m trying to review over all of the course quickly before the exam on Tuesday. Anyone know of a good resource ( preferably video) that reviews AP Physics 1? I don’t need it to be very in-depth but good enough such that I can recall everything learnt in the past year.

thANKS!

^flipping physics is pretty good

My teacher didn’t prepare me for this lol. We solved math problems.

@hhjjlala yeah a lot of teachers are still a customer to teaching AP Physics B and just plug and chug.
