AP Physics credit

I have credit for 33-111 (one of the required science core) from 5 on AP Physics but some at CMU recommended not accepting it or taking 33-131. I am not a physics major (although I am interested in physics, I focus more on math/CS) but I am in MCS so I'm just wondering how worthwhile this is in comparison to just waiting to take 33-112. What do most people do?

This decision should be made based upon how well you actually believe you have mastered the material. Becuase you will need a good masterry of it before being able to move to the next level of Physics. Some AP classes teach to the test so getting a 5 might not be an accurate reflection of your knowledge of the subject as a whole, or it might be and you would be bored repeating the course. My suggestion would be to talk to your advisor (should have contacted you by now) and ask them for more info on what most people do and what any benefits are of taking that Physics at CMU.

Physics I and Physics II are some of the toughest classes at CMU. They’re a lot of work and won’t be easy, even if you’ve done AP. Skip the credit if you wanna take M&I I or get a refresher in mechanics; take the credit if you wanna do Physics II.

Just my opinion, but I would take the credit to get Physics II out of the way. Upper-level math/cs courses are brutal, so it’s best to finish off Physics when you’re a freshman taking gen eds.
