I’m registering for my junior year classes and I’m debating between AP Physics I/II — which is a year long course that teaches both Physics I and Physics II — OR AP Bio. Freshman year I took Honors Bio, and this year I’m taking Honors Chem. I enjoyed Bio a lot more than Chem and Algebra is one of my strongest subjects. What are the pros and cons for each? I can also look through a Physics I/II textbook, so are there any specific chapters I should look at to get a sense of what the course will be like? Thanks!
If you choose AP biology, will you take some kind of physics while in high school?
Yes, I’ll take AP Physics I/II senior year if I take AP Bio next year.
In that case, you can take them in either order, depending on scheduling, better teachers available, etc… This assumes that you meet the math prerequisites for physics either way.
As long as you take physics before you graduate, you can take it either in 11th or in 12th grade.
Do you have an idea what you’d like to major in (and would that make Ap physics Ap Chem more logical?)
As long as you cover the big three at some point, the order doesn’t really matter.
You already have a year off, so the possible advantage of continuing on before forgetting doesn’t apply. Just see what works best with your schedule, other classes, teacher availability, etc.
What do you hope to major in?
Remember that for engineering, CS, math etc., you need calculus based physics. AP Physics is not calculus based and you will have to retake no matter your score.
Better strategy is to take Hons. physics and if possible, dual enroll for calculus based physics after you have taken calc AB/BC and passed your AP tests with flying colors!
Long way of saying that take AP Bio now.
