My daughter is interested in pursuing genetics or some aspect of chemistry in college. She has taken Honors BIO, Chem, and is in AP CHEM. She has a 3.83/4.0 unweighted and a 35 on the ACT. She is not interested in an IVY but possibly Carnegie Mellon. She wants to maximize her chances to get in but I'm thinking take what you like (Genetics) (to get more information on how much you like it). This AP stuff is like running with the bulls. Don't stop or you'll get run over! thanks!

If she has not had physics yet, many schools will want to see a year of each of the main science branches. I would double check that angle with target schools first. Also, if she plans to go into the sciences or a medical field and might need to take physics in college it could help her to have seen the material before.

A biology or chemistry major will likely have to take some physics in college. College physics courses may assume a high school physics background, so lack of any physics in high school may make such a course more difficult.

^^ agree - remember, D should also want to maximize her chances of doing well once she gets to school of choice. CM is such a heavy STEM school that she would likely be very disadvantaged in a physics class compared to peers without a solid base in HS.

Thank you so much - looks rather unanimous in opinions. I will shut up and sit down. :-)
