Ap Physics vs. AP Chem

I was wondering if anybody knew which class is harder or if anybody has taken AP physics or AP chem and tell me what is the most difficult part of the class and around how many hours do you study a night?

They're considered equally difficult at my school because ap physics is the C part, both Mechanics and electricity and magnetism in one class (2 periods). AP chem is also 2 periods. Same amount of homework, both insanely hard, at least here. Of course taking reg. or ap physics here lets you take a field trip to cedar point (an amusement park)

AP Physics so far is pretty hard. Not concept-hard, but just getting everything done kind of hard. I still haven't hit my stride, so I'm procrastinating a lot and doing most of my work before school (and during other classes).

So far, no studying done for Physics (we haven't even touched our textbook), just homework assignments and a lab report. Got an 82% on the first test...so I better get cracking.

AP Chem kids say that it's not as much work. Sometimes I wish the coin had come up tails.

Isn't cedar point the place with the insane rollercoasters?

AP Sciences at my school are each 70 minutes long (they run 20 minutes into our 45 minutes lunch period). Our physics is the C version as well. We do get a field trip to Dave and Busters though.

Yes Cedar Point has lots of insane roller coasters:D

Our periods are 50 minutes long, so double-blocked classes are 100 minutes long (bio, physics, chem). You get a 4-minute break inbetween each period. My school is extremely lab-focused, which is part of the reason.

Thanks for the replies..

At might school AP Chem is only 1 period and same as AP Physics. I don't know which one to take at the moment. do you think AP physics and AP chem at the same time is completely INSANE?

No, we have students who do it, but you will drown in work. I'm not kidding. Maybe one is considered easier than the other at your school, but neither are easy and neither have small amonts of homework. I personally was considering doing it, but I actually want to have human socialization (i'm taking ap chem). At my school, you basically must become 100% solitary if you want to take both

At my school it's impossible to take both...all AP sciences are at the same time. Anyone who thinks they can take both is insane.

AP chem is about concepts, making it hard for students who took it as their first class in chem as myself.

AP physics is based on concepts that might have been learned by example in algebra, but is certainly not as tough, for a first-time physics class.

Physics is harder. But its really fun. Physics is ... EVERYTHING! Do physics! :D

I know someone who graduated from my school last year who took AP Physics, AP Chem, and AP Bio all in the same year. And I believe he got 4 or 5 on all of the AP tests. So it's definitely possible.

And he was hardly "solitary" - he also took 2 or 3 other AP classes, played varsity soccer, was on our drumline (2+ hours daily year-round), and got up at 5am every day to study religion.

AP CHEM ROCKS!!!!

However, if you have a cool teacher, he/she will have you do much cooler projects in AP Physics.

At my school, you get to build anything you want for the mechanics, and people have built things like:

trebuchets, hovercrafts (magnetic railway with magnetic chairs), body armor against blunt forces (we tested it by putting it on the teacher), a few unoriginal things like potato cannons. This year the AP physics class is working on a motorized sofa, they're basing it off what a few kids at MIT did

I love AP Chem and it's my fave subject right now. We are doing stoichiometry review right now so it's pretty easy for me. The workload is crazy though.

For me AP Physics B is hard with understanding the concepts and taking all the info in and memorizing equations (we're on Newton laws). It's my first physics class, so it's difficult for me.

Yes, at my school ap chem is only after reg. chem, and ap physics doesn't require reg. physics

i'm taking ap chem this year. i took honors chem last year. i wouldn't reccomend taking it if you haven't taken a chem class before. we are reviewing for huge tests on summer work right now, and getting into the swing of things. so far, i love it. it is my favorite class.
i haven't taken physics. i may jump into AP next year.
i guess i can't tell you which is harder. but so far, i really, really enjoy chemistry.

Well I am in honors chem right now and I seem to like a lot. I was just wondering because a lot of people at my school say that AP Chem is way harder then AP Physics, and some people I have talked to said AP Physics is easier but more time consuming as far as studying. I know the chem teacher I have right now, is also the AP Chem teacher and she is really nice, and we do a lot of neat labs I am going to take physics next semester at a local community college. Thanks for the replies

I want to provide a different thought. AP chem is not that hard. If u understand the concepts well enough there's nothing to fear. I didn't take regular chem and took AP chem. First it was daunting, but what helped me was the review period. During the review period i caught up with all the concepts from regular chem. I got a five and an A if u r curious. But i loved chemistry so if u like chem u don't have to take regular chem to take AP.
I"m taking Physics C this year, and it is kind of annoying. My teacher is taking so MANY points off for little mistakes. I had a C because of all those mistakes. I hope we take a big test so i can salvage my grade from all those nasty quizs.
Physics C doesn't seem hard. I think it is definitely possible taking AP Physics C and Chem at the same time. The workload? I guess chem has more to do but i don't think it's impossible. If i had the time i would have taken AP bio and AP Physics C but too bad i can't fit it in my schedule. Also u won't drown in work.

Thanks imiracle991 that was really helpfull I hope that everything goes well with you and your Physics hopefully you get your C brought up to an A.. Good Luck
