Looking at my possibilites for class next year, I am thinking about taking physics. I have no background in physics whatsoever, and I am struggling to decide whether I should take the Honors level or AP level course. Would it be crazy to take an AP Physics level course with no background?
I don’t think it would. I took AP World History with no background and am doing just fine in it. I think you’d okay, provided you give an effort to understand, etc.
Ok thank you @Swade1234
any1 else?
I think you should be fine. Do you know which course it is, the algebra based or calculus based?
I’m taking the algebra-based one right now, the second part. They just changed the system recently so physics 1 is pretty similar to what used to be the first physics honours (called Ap-prep) course at my school. I doubt that the AP will be too difficult at your school.
I took that course with no background in physics and I really struggled at first. I got 70s, spent so many nights frustrated and crying, but I got through the course with a 96 final mark. It might be hard but keep at it and it will become easier and you will be happier in the end.
@CherryCream Its not the Calculus Based one, I believe it’s just called AP Physics 1. Thank you for the feedback. I just found out that my school holds these short summer courses to introduce you to certain subjects. Do you think taking one of these courses in Honors Physics over the summer would help the beginning of the year be less difficult for me in AP Physics?
@vmiller7723 Yes I think the summer thing will help, but if you are unable to take it, it doesn’t mean it will be too much harder If you are a good math student, it will be no problem, because the majority of physics 1 is very math-y. The concepts aren’t really all that difficult. Are you a sophomore right now?
@CherryCream No I am a Junior
I’m very worried about this as well. I am in the same position. I am a junior, and I took AP Chemistry this year. Everyone who told me that it “isn’t too bad” lied – I am constantly struggling to understand concepts and am receiving tutoring most days. Is AP Physics 1 easier than AP Chemistry? I hate science, but I need to take physics to graduate. Please give me some good news! Tell me it’s not as bad as chemistry. Thank you!
AP Physics 1 is meant to be an introductory course, so you don’t need a physics background.
