AP Policy at your school?

I go to an international school outside the states. In our freshmen and sophomore years, they do the cambridge IGCSE program thing, so you can’t take AP’s those years.

limited to 2 in junior year unless you get permission.
limited to 3 in senior year unless you get permission.

i thought it was dumb you can only take like 5 APs your entire highschool.

luckily, i got exempt from the IGCSE math and physics programs so i could take the AP calc and physics tests. they don’t even have calc BC and physics C offered, so i took it online.

we have to pay 120 each for our exams.

At my school, freshmen can’t take AP classes, but as far as I know they’re not restricted from taking the actual tests.

After sophomore year, you’re allowed to take any AP offered as long as you meet the prerequisites (ie Pre-Calc. before you take AB) and even then most of the science prereqs can be waived if you fight hard enough and appeal to the teacher of the course.

We can take any AP test except for Computer Science, Human Geography, German Language, Latin, and Spanish Literature. Some of the other AP classes aren’t offered at my school, but if you want to you can self-study and take the test at another school.

We have to pay for all of our tests, absolutely no refund policy, about ~$100/test if you sign up on time or ~$120/test if you’re a couple weeks late. The only way to get a fee reduction is through the College Board, I believe. Our district’s really poor, especially this year.

I go to a large suburban school in Pennsylvania (3 grade school, ~3500 students)

This is the standard AP Policy at my school:
Freshman - none
Sophomore - AP World History, AP Art History, AP Statistics (Bio, Chem, Calc AB and the other math/sciences if they already completed the prerequisites)
Junior - Any AP except those that require a prerequisite
Senior - Same as Junior.
The only APs not available to skip between grades is the AP English courses.
I believe I paid around seventy dollars for my AP World exam coming up tomorrow…Yikes!

Ah, forgot to mention my school has nearly all of the AP courses except for Chinese Literature. Attending a big school is really beneficial to those that take advantage of the AP Curriculum! I’m signed up to take 5 APs (Chem, English, Latin Vergil, Calc AB, US History) and Honors Physics next year.

PUMPED!

I signed up for 5 AP’s next year which would make 10 total. My school offers 12, so I’ve taken full advantage of the system.
9th- AP Gov
10th- AP World
11th- Any (up to five)
12th- Same as 11th
It’s $87 per exam, which really sucks…

We pay the full $87 for the test ourselves unless, of course, you qualify for free or reduced. Typically, this is how our school works:

These are the APs recommended for each grade. So like, only the people from your grade will be in them.
G9: none
G10: World Hist
G11: Gov, Eng Lang
G12: Microecon, Eng Lit, Spanish/French/German? (idk), Calc AB (typically no one in our city gets to Calc or AP Foreign Language when they’re a junior, except this one girl in my class who went through a faster curriculum from a different state or something)

And then in your junior and senior years, you can choose any of the following that you qualify for: Stats, Psych, Chem, Bio, Physics B, Art

I’m taking all of them except the foreign language (AP Spanish; chose tech ed/engineering and typing over Spanish in middle school LOL /regret) and AP Art. I’m thinking about self-studying for ES and Macroecon too. Hm.

No policy. Students have to pay for all AP tests, but are not required to take any (even if you’re in the AP class, you can opt out of the test)

if one takes AP class, and one drops out, one has to pay fee.

Considering there’s only two AP classes at my school (first time this year), we are not required to take the AP exam if we take the class. Also, we only have to pay $25 for it, and another $15 if we do not show up for it.

Local public schools: students can take as many as they can fit, but they don’t take any freshman year and usually 1 or 2 sophomore year. Junior and senior year they can cram them in. Students do not have to take the test, but pay the fee for the tests they take.

DD’s private school: None freshman year, one sophomore year with recommendation. Not more than three unless special permission is given in junior and senior year, again recommendations are required. All students are required to take and pay for AP tests.

DS’s private school: Essentially the same as daughter’s private school, but Human Geography is offered freshman year.

The percent of students passing the tests is quite a lot higher in the private schools.

My school gives a stipend of $50 for each AP exam passed =]

Taking 5 APs this year (show me the money!)

What does “DD” and “DS” standford?

you can’t take any APs freshman year, you can only take APUSH sophomore year. you can technically take an AP science and an AP history junior year, but a lot of the best students can’t do both because of an honors seminar(i didn’t take a lunch so that I could take both). Senior year, you can only take 3, unless your guidance counselor approves four…you could techinically take 5, if one of them was art.

DD is Dear Daughter and DS is Dear Son… it’s what parents on online forums use to refer to their children.

No limit on APs but you must pay. Freshmen can take any exams they want but it’s rare to see anyone take anything but World History (only core AP class offered to 9th graders), I know a couple who took the Music Theory exam though. 10th graders can take a lot more, I don’t have an exact list but I’m taking Human Geo and Psych next year. It’s pretty silly that 9th graders are excluded from AP in so many schools, it’s a challenge but it’s honestly not that hard (better to get used to it now rather than 11th grade right?) You’re not forced to take the exam (But I LOVE all the schools that do, thanks for making up the bottom 50% guys!) My school has an 87% pass rate and offers about 20ish APs - Sincerely 9th Grader :)

Freshman: none
Sophomore: APUSH, AP Statistics
Junior: APUSH, AP Statistics, AP World, APES, AP Calc
Senior: everything offered at my school (no economics, only AP language = Spanish)
