AP Predicted Grades and Actual Grades Oxford

Hello!

In October, my college counselor entered my predictive grades as all 5s on all 7 APs I was planning to take. And now on UCAS, it says my place is confirmed at the University (Oxford), which means I have fulfilled all the conditions on the conditional offers. But due to some reasons, I am not taking two of them now (AP Spanish, which I am also taking a course at the school and AP Japanese, which is a test that I simply do not want to take anymore). I wonder if the differences between the number of predicted grades and my actual scores will impact my enrolment at the end? Thank you!

Email Oxford - what course were you admitted to?

So, your initial offer in January was conditional on X, you have since supplied X to Oxford and they have returned to you with an unconditional offer? Meaning that scores on those APs were not part of your original offer (directly or indirectly, as in 'scores of 5 on x number of APs). And now you have an unconditional offer? Has your status on UCAS changed?

Yes. You need to contact the university and let them know you will no longer be taking those exams. Admission to UK universities is different. If your offer was conditional on the basis that you achieve 5’s in all 7 AP’s, you will not be fulfilling their expectations of you. You need to let them know in advance. They can and will rescind offers to people who do not achieve their predicted grades for admission.

In OP’s other post he/she mentions having taken a number of APs last year; if those were suitable grades and subject’s it’s not impossible their offer was unconditional, in which case no need to worry.

Yes, my status on UCAS did change to “your place at the university is confirmed,” and I do have plenty of 5s on AP in the previous year, in other words, I think the offer has become unconditional.

Then congratulations!

(the only not-so-good news is that you have to now be patient for a while, b/c most of the fun ‘welcome’ packet type stuff won’t come until August, when the UK students get their places confirmed, so you will have to be patient).

(but: oushop.com will ship you a sweatshirt/tshirt now, and you might as well get one & wear it while you are in the US, b/c Oxford/UK students don’t tend to wear uni gear the way US students do; slightly more likely to wear their college stuff).

What college?

Thank you! I did not know any college when I apply, so my college is a rather small one, St Peter’s College. And just make sure, since I received the confirmation letter and they only mention non-academic qualifications, I don’t need to worry about the APs now, right?

Only in the sense that as a life plan you should finish the tings that you begin

Peter’s is a lovely college- small and friendly and really conveniently located. Have a wonderful adventure!

Thank you!

During my time, St. Peter’s had a lovely MCR (graduate students common room) which not only accepted grad students, but also undergraduate internationals because the college saw that these students frequently felt they fit better there than with the majority British, fairly homogeneous JCR (which they were of course also part of, so they could hang out with whomever and wherever they chose). I knew international undergraduates who very much appreciated the option. A very friendly and accepting community.
