I'm taking the AP European History next year (my sophomore year), and I wanted to self study one AP as well. I had a few questions.
1. Which test is easier? I've heard that both are pretty easy, but which did you find easier?
2. Do Ivies look down on AP Psychology?
3. Do Ivies prefer AP Comparative Government?
4. I'm extremely involved in politics and economics. I read economic theories in my spare time, and I have volunteered for three political campaigns so far. Does AP Comparative Government and Politics have anything to do with that?
5. Does AP Comparative Government and Politics have any information that's also on the European History AP? I have to take the European History one, so I was wondering if a portion of the information will already be covered.

Ummm Wrong forum. This is for SAT subject test, not AP exams

Psych

Yes

No

Not really

No

Probably Psych although I haven’t taken comp.gov. Overall, Psych is a great class. I’d recommend it.

It’s known to be easier than other APs but it’s still an AP class. They won’t penalize you for taking it.

The ivies, including other top colleges, just want to know that you are challenging yourself with a rigorous curriculum. Any AP class can be considered rigorous in a sense. They deal with college material.

Well, if you’re interested in politics then you should take comp. gov. It’s important to note that comp.gov emphasizes politics around the world so there’s not as much on American government. I don’t think there will be a lot on economics.

The class may touch briefly on politics in Europe but I don’t think you should expect to learn so much that it’ll help you significantly on the AP Euro exam.

Basically, just take the class you want to take. AP Comp. Gov seems more suited to your interests. I would venture to say they’re comparable in rigor so in the end, it’s all up to you.

I don’t know about the other questions, but AP Psych is DEFINITELY easier. I only studied for about two nights before the exam and it was a breeze. The FRQ was kind of tricky, but I finished all of the multiple choice in 30 minutes and had plenty of time to double and triple check my answers. So yeah… You actually might be able to self-study both if you wanted to… o____o

If you’re interested in govt. though, just go for it. If you are really interested in politics and economics, then the exam should be easy for you. I have a friend that shares your passion, and he reads textbooks about politics and economics just for the fun of it, but he despises biology and had to force himself to study. He also self-studied AP Euro because he enjoys history, and he got a 5 without even trying.

OR you could take it later on, since you’re far from the end of high school.
