AP Psychology or AP Computer Science? Stuck with choices!! Desperately need help!!!

Sorry if this is in the wrong category, but I am stuck between the two choices of taking AP Psych or AP CompSci next year. I have the rest of my schedule planned out and I have a free period that I want to fill with an AP class. I have already eliminated AP Environmental Science because of many negative reviews about the curriculum and the teacher. I hope to major in business, so I feel like AP CompSci would be very beneficial.

However, my schedule for next year is EXTREMELY challenging and I do not think I could handle a challenging AP course. I understand that many people (especially you CC geniuses) find AP CompSci easy, however it is soooo difficult for me. I have countless time to learn coding and I simply suck. AP Psychology at my school is a very fun “joke” class. However, it does sound very interesting to me. I was told that many colleges won’t even give you credit for taking AP Psych because it’s a joke, so I guess my question is:

Should I take AP CompSci- and risk doing awfully and making next year hell
Should I take AP Psych- and have a fun, easy class, but maybe look less rigorous to a college and not get credit.

Thank you so much guys!! If you link your question, I will try my best to answer.

Take AP Psych then. It doesn’t sound like Comp Sci is for you and psych is also useful for business. One of my good friends is a consultant in business psychology.

Is it CS A or CS principles?

CS principles is the more useful one for non CS majors (in term of what you learn, not in terms of AP credit).

My D took AP Psych and it was her all time favorite class. There is a lot of reading and writing to do in the class but she liked it all. I think you should take the class you think you will find most interesting and I agree with @mathmom that it seems for you that would be the psych class.

Unless you’re planning to major in CS, I would take AP Psych.

AP Comp Sci is the sole reason I don’t want to major in Comp Sci. I hate this class. Only take it if you’re already good at Java. I would take AP Psych.

Understanding Psych is a useful thing even if you don’t want to major in it. You will usually get college credit for it as the AP test is not tooo difficult. Look at colleges you are interested in and see if you get college credit. Most likely you do. Since you are already taking a challenging schedule, don’t add to your stress by taking Comp Sci if you don’t want to major in CS. You will have opportunity to take a CS class in college.

I would advise you to take whatever you feel you are good at. Everyone has a weak side and strong side honestly. Personally my weak side is history/geography but it’s because I don’t try hard in it. On the other hand, I took AP Psychology and absolutely LOVE IT. It is a very practical course. You won’t have those moments where you want to pull out your hair because you don’t understand something. Instead I guess it will help you understand yourself much better. It has work like every other AP class but the work is worth it. You won’t regret, I promise.
On the other hand, I have nothing to say about AP Computer Science but one of my friends said it’s all on the computer, which I think is boring. :stuck_out_tongue:

AP Psych isn’t a joke class, not sure where that idea comes from. If you are interested in psych, you should take it.

Where are you thinking of applying to college? Check to see if they offer credit for either class. All of the state schools in and around our state require psych for a business degree and give credit for the exam. Most do not require CS for a business degree but do give credit for it.

Do you have an idea of the passing rate is for each at your school? Your description of the psych class does not match the experience at our school, but the passing rate is pretty high for our class.

If you are applying only to schools that don’t offer credit for AP exams, then I would take whichever one interests you the most. If you are interested, you will do better.
