This is a little chat group for anyone who is planning on taking the AP Psychology Exam in May 2011 whether after a class or self study (I am self-studying). Share tips, prep book reviews, and anyone who took the test in 2010 can give us some advice. Let's all go for 5's in May!

I’m taking it as a self-study too! What book are you using? Any other prep materials (e.g. flashcards)?

I’m using Barron’s and plan to make flashcards in the near future.

Use Crash Course 1-2 weeks before test day. The book is amazing and easy to make flash cards from. I took this exam this past year and it was easy thanks to a mixture of that book, Barron’s, and an excellent teacher.

I think the AP Psych exam is on the first day of AP testing in 2011. So don’t fall behind guys :)

our teacher is making us write outlines of the entire Barrons book so that is going to be helpful, yes, but tedious.

Is that your summer assignment? While it might take a bit of time, that is actually going to make your life a LOT easier come late April-May. It might even help you excell in the class as well! Good luck.

Thanks everybody.

I’m taking the class next year, and so far I just have 5 steps to a 5. I plan on getting Crash Course as well come March.

^ Don’t worry. 5 Steps is really good as well. I actually liked it’s narrative style better than Barron’s, but the latter was a bit more in-depth.

I was planning on using Barrons along with the 2007 test (maybe?), text book notes online, anything free from the library, and making my own flash card and such.

I’m studying for it now as well, too. Can anyone please explain to me the difference between a situation and a subject-confounding variable, while giving me some examples?

My teacher recommended us to get 5 steps to a 5, so I will be purchasing that by the end of the summer. =) I feel as if this is going to a super easy AP

Wow this is early. Memorize the crash course book the week before the test and you’ll get a 5.

If I already have Barron’s, should I get another book in addition, or just stick with it?

I’m self studying and I will be buying the Barron’s prepbook.

Hi everyone I’m considering self-studying for this since it is not available at my HS and is part of my major. is this typically easy as a self-study? and what is the best book?

This, along with Human Geography, is the easiest AP test you will ever take. I self-studied it this year with little effort. All you need to do is buy the Barron’s book and simply read it two to three times. By that time, you will surely be able to get a 5 easily. Also, psychwiki.com helped whenever I needed clarification on some topics or was just interested in an experiment. Make sure you know every important person in the Barron’s book, their theories, their experiments, and what the experiments proved.

On a side note, I had a friend only find out she was taking the test the Friday before the Tuesday the test was given. Cramming all of the information in within that extremely short time period (3 days), she most likely still earned a 5. This just shows how easy the test is.

Also, if you have some knowledge of anatomy or a science of the like, it will help tremendously to learn the chapter about the brain and the special senses.

I’m using 5 steps and I’ll be making flash cards as I read through it.

Good luck to you all.

wow, is this exam really as easy as it sounds?! i keep seeing everywhere how easy it is to get a 5 and i cant help but be curious…what percentage of students who take it get 5’s? does anyone know?

Am I the only one taking it in a class? Haha.
My only summer work is to respond to some articles the teacher’ll post at some point in the summer on his blog ._.
But yeah, if the exam is so easy to get a 5, is it even worth it to take? Like, I feel like colleges will realize that it’s so easy, they won’t give credit.

Francaisalamatt- I’m also taking it in class and my teacher is making us read the 1st chapter in the textbook and read “Why are all the black kids sitting together in the Cafeteria” which is a really good book about the psychology of racism.
