AP Psychology Study Group 2011

have you guys taken the barrons practice tests yet? they seem decently hard, i hear theyre harder than the test?

@Interficio- what does SSRI stand for? I feel like I should know it, but I’m probably just not remembering the acronym for whatever it is, sorry, mind saying what it stands for?

I haven’t taken Barron’s AP Psych tests, but Barron’s does tend to be more difficult in general for AP tests, so you’re probably fine if you’re doing ok on those.

SSRI’s are a class of antidepressants (serotonin re-uptake inhibitors)

I’ve heard the AP Psych exam is one of the easiest AP exams, so I’m not freaking out too much…have you guys heard that too from ppl at school?

aight cuz i got like 78% on it and since you need like 75% to get a 5, i was a little uneasy…

what is the difference between MAO inhibitors, tricyclics, & SSRIs?

Yeah, it’s one of the shortest exams too- except for Physics C cuz they split it up…or something

@iluvpiano - it’s good to be a little nervous though c: according to Yerkes-Dodson

I’m not sure if y’all already talked about this or not… but what % do we need to get a 5? (70ish?)

hey guys, I was browsing on yahoo answers for essay prediction (just for the heck of it, haha) and one of the answers was:

“chances are very high that there will be a research question (they give you the scenario and we analyze the IV, DV, confounding variables etc) and it’s also likely that one of the essay questions will be on cognition (perhaps with a connection to biological bases of behavior) since her professor indirectly hinted at that. And be sure to study Treatment, and Developmental Psychology for just in case, since they haven’t had that in a while either.”

Anyone care to share their knowledge on these predicted topics? :(

supyall, i really dont think you need to know- i hear that if the question concerns neurotransmitters, you just need to pair it with the disorder that an abundance/ lack of that neurotransmitter causes (idk if that made sense) so i would know the basics

thank you!!! THIS THREAD IS EXCELLENT I HOPE YOU ALL GET 5’s

MAOs - monoamine oxidase inhibitors, blocks activity of enzyme that destroys norepinephrine and serotonin

SSRI (Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil), blocks re-uptake of serotonin

Not so sure about Tricyclics o_o;;

I HOPE YOU GET A 5 TOO!! lol… back to jaanga, i heard that 10 out of the past 18 exams had an frq on that… so it is VERY likely

@rouxbo- hey, great way to use your Psych knowledge in commenting on my post! yep you’re right!

@jaanga- those are predictions for this year? I’ve heard that a research question is common in general, not just this year, my prep book told me that.

Yeah, 70% is about right for a 5, or maybe 75% just to be sure. I’ve been getting 80 correct out of 100 on the MC, so I’m not too worried about the FRQs since 1/2 credit on that will for sure be a 4 and 2/3 credit would be a 5, based on the MC score, if anyone wants to know. I find the MC really easy.

i think tricyclics are antidepressents…idk so something with serotonin, like the others

@jaanga, my stomach is doing flipflops after reading that. Definitely going to study that right now.

According to my teacher, thinking,language, and intelligence / social psychology = very popular for free response, so be sure to study up those vocab words (:

Ugh, I think I’ll study the topics just in case. You just never know, might as well be prepared… I feel so unprepared for some reason. I memorized all the important psychologists from the back of the Barrons book, but somehow I’m blanking out on everything I’ve read from the book this week :frowning: screwed.

Social psych seems really easy, doesn’t it? Like all the vocab words are easy to memorize I think, or maybe I’m oversimplifying it…cause half of it seems like common sense/common knowledge, so an FRQ on that sounds good to me if we get that.
