AP Requirement

If I complete advance courses over online platforms such as edX with verified certificates , will it fulfill the requirement of AP courses for undergrad admission? Thanks in advance .

There is no college AP requirement. Colleges want students who have taken rigorous courses in HS. That doesn’t necessarily have to be AP. Many private schools are doing away with them and providing their own courses with even more rigor.

Afaik, none of those colleges require any APs for undergrad admission.

For universities (such as the UK) which do accept APs as part of admissions, no, an EdX course is not accepted.

Many schools offer CLEP or exam-based credit/exemption as an alternative to AP exam-based credit . I’ve never seen EdX/Coursera Certificates as a similar option.

There is no requirement to earn college credit in high school. If you do, some schools may accept them for credit and others may not. It may or may not help in admissions. There is no uniform policy on this. Why are you trying to do this?

If you actually take courses from a college, you may jeopardize your ability to apply as a freshman. This could adversely affect the amount of financial aid that you get. Check with your target schools to make sure taking college classes will not make you a transfer student before you do this.

Is it possible to bolster my application package by earning a college credit via summer courses or online college programs provided by top tier colleges? My country doesn’t provide such facilities , So, online program may be the only option to earn a college credit at high school . Please give your precious opinion and help me.

There is no requirement to take AP courses (in fact a number of top high schools in the US do not offer AP courses) or any other college courses while in HS. I do not expect that taking online college classes would be a huge plus to an application.

Thanks for your such constructive advice. I’m really new to this admission game that’s why scrambling too much.

No doubt about it- admissions as an international student is tough- especially if you need financial aid. But you won’t be compared to US applicants- you will be compared to the other students from your country/region. Admissions officers do take context into account, and they don’t expect international students to have the same profile as US students.
